February is the month of love and faith indeed! The school mass was a success. Thank you to all the students and parents who attended and participated the Catholic school mass.
The Catholic school Week had been exciting and fun as well.
The different activities helped us to become one community.
March is a
month that will help strengthen our journey in faith. We started March with the
celebration of Ash Wednesday.
In the Catholic church, we are
now in the season of Lent. Lent is a season when we make an effort to live the
way God wants us to by praying and acting loving to other people.
In Language Arts, we are continuously focusing on our grammar,
spelling, reading, writing and phonics. We are continuing our monthly journals
and our printing practice. This term, the students will start reading easy
chapter books. We are learning more about writing complete sentences. They are
being reminded to write their sentences using proper capitalization and
punctuation.
In Math, we are doing small unit about comparing numbers using
the greater than less than and equal sign symbols. We are also doing the order
of numbers from least to greatest and greatest to least. We will start learning
Addition and Subtraction with regrouping. Strengthening their mental math
skills is done thru mad minutes.
In Social Studies, we are learning all about their personal
identity – on what makes them special and unique. Their language spoken, their
family, the community they belong, and of course all about themselves. We are going
to do a lesson about The Treaty Relationship – learning about trade and
bartering.
In Science, we are learned appearances of an adult animal and
its offspring. We are learning about life span of certain living things.
In Religion, Lent is the time of reflection. We will discuss
the pillars of lent which are prayer, fasting and almsgiving. As well discuss
the different works of mercy.
In Art, the students are excited to have monthly artist of the
month. In the month of February, we talk about Alma Thomas’ artworks. She is
the first Black woman to have a solo
exhibition at the Whitney Museum in New York City and the first Black woman to
have her work chosen for the White House collection. This month of March, our artist of the month
is Henri Matisse. Henri Matisse was a French artist known for his
use of wild, bright colors and original ideas. He is mainly known as a painter,
but he was also a drawer, printmaker, collage artist and sculptor.
