November

It was great to speak with all of the families at parent-teacher conferences.  The students were very proud of the work they put into their portfolios and were very excited to take them home and share them with their family.  Please remember to return them once they have been shared.

November is a time of remembrance and peace.  The grade two students have been learning about Remembrance Day and did a project based on the book A Poppy is to Remember.  We had a Remembrance Day ceremony on Friday, November 10th and the grade 2 class shared a poem called “Little Poppy”.

In Language Arts, we have been focusing on our reading, writing and spelling.  We have been writing in our journals, working in our phonics books and learning how to write a proper sentence.  The students are working on adding detail to their writing to make it more interesting.  They are also working on building their writing stamina.

In Math, we are beginning our next unit on Place Value shortly.  We will first do a short unit on Comparing and ordering numbers.  We will continue to do our Mad Minutes so please remember to practice addition facts up to 18 at home.

In Social Studies, we are continuing to learn about “Our Local Community”.  We are talking about what it means to be a part of a community.  The students did a mini writing project on their favourite place in their local community.

In Science, we are wrapping up our unit about the growth and changes of animals.  We did a research project on an Arctic animal and the students put all their information into a flip book which you got to see in your child’s portfolio.  The student’s really enjoyed creating this project.
