Hello Parents and Guardians!
It was nice to meet many of you these past two days during
our student-led conferences and discussing the goals for your child. I am
looking forward in seeing all of them grow in their learning.
For the past couple of months, the Grade Two class have been
doing well in practicing classroom routine and understanding the expectations
in grade two. They are learning to become independent workers and how to solve
problems with friends on their own.
If you haven’t already, most of you have joined our
CLASSDOJO to see your child’s monster and look at their progress behaviour and
their personal portfolio. If you have trouble in joining, please contact me and
we will get that working right away! The grade two class love showing off their
work and seeing their monster gain positive points!
As you know, we have started a new Spelling program called
Words Their Way. Thank you parents for your support with homework expectations
that they need to do at home. I can already see that the student’s spelling is
improving in their test and in their writing!
In math we are working on different mental math strategies
for adding up to 20. Please have your children practice their partner facts to
10 (for example, 6+4, 9+1, 8+2, etc) and their double facts (for example, 9+9,
8+8, 7+7).
For Science we have been exploring many simple machines in
the classroom and have done plenty of experiments on levers, wheel and axles, incline
planes, and pulleys. They are having a lot of fun exploring and constructing
new things.
For Social Studies we have been exploring our Local Community. We
learned the importance of being responsible and how to be a good citizen in our
local community. We looked at the importance of our school community. We
explored the differences between a Rural, sub-urban, and urban community and we
just finished studying and learning about different community helpers.
For French we have looked at basic word vocabulary like
words used for Thanksgiving and Halloween. We are now going over numbers to 20,
days of the week, and months.
For Religion we have started preparing for our Sacrament of
Reconciliation. The celebration of the Sacrament of Reconciliation will be on
Saturday, November 25 at 1:00pm in St. Gerard School.
Please continue to check your child’s agenda for homework
and make sure to sign it every day. If you have any questions or concerns you
can email me at christinesimbulan23@gmail.com
or call me at the school.
God Bless,
Miss. Simbulan
