Just like
that, our first term is complete! I am so proud of the Grade 2s in what they
have accomplished this term!
This month
we have started the season of Advent. Our focus this month before Christmas
break is to prepare our hearts for the coming of Jesus. Children are focusing
on how to be kind to one another and helping each other out. During religion,
we will focus on hope, love, joy, and peace. They did a wonderful job creating
their Advent wreaths which is displayed on our hallway bulletin.
During the past
month, the grade twos has been working hard. In math we continue to practice
the different mental math strategies to add up to 20. We also have been
reviewing place value up to 100 and exploring tens and ones to create a number
using base ten blocks.
In Language
Arts, students have been doing well with Daily 5. Their reading stamina has
increased and most students are able to read silently for 15 minutes without
interruptions. We have done a lot of writing projects for Christmas. Students
have been going over the writing process and learning to edit their own writing
before writing their good copy. Their writing stamina has improved a lot since
September!
In Social
Studies we continue exploring our Community. We looked at the natural environment
of our community and created dioramas. For Science, we finished up our Simple
Machines unit and the students got to create their own simple machine boxed
car.
Please make
sure that your child has an extra pair of socks and mitts for
recess and to always have their snow pants.
Please
continue to check your child’s agenda for homework and make sure to sign it
every day. If you have any questions or concerns you can email me at christinesimbulan23@gmail.com
or call me at the school.
Wishing everyone a safe and Happy Christmas!
Miss Simbulan
