February

This month the children have been very busy!

Many things were happening this month including I love to read month and Catholic’s Schools Week. Lent season has also started. During the season of Lent, our focus is on how we can grow closer to Jesus and pray more together as a class.

Catholic’s Schools Week was a lot of fun! Students got to dress up every day and participate in activities all week long. Thank you for those who came to family lunch. It was nice to see you all there!

For Language Arts, students have been practicing with their reading comprehension and fluency. They do daily reading passages with words that they are focusing in phonics and answering the questions. We also have been reading about the Winter Olympics and learning about each winter sport. The kids have enjoyed watching Team Canada and cheering them on during this time. Go Canada Go!

In math, we explored with different patterns. We looked at increasing patterns, decreasing patterns and simple patterns such as ABA, ABBA, ABC patterns. We are now practicing more with our number sense and adding and subtracting up to 20 using different strategies. We also practiced adding word problems.

For Science, we have explored more on matter. Students got to make ice cream as an experiment and saw what happens when a liquid turns into a solid. We also looked at buoyancy and experimented with different objects to see whether or not it will float. To end this unit, students will design their own boat and test to see if it will float.

For Social Studies, we ended our cultural community unit. Thank you for letting your child bring their cultural treats to share with the class and help them with their cultural book. It was really nice to see that everyone got to learn about each other`s culture.

For Religion, we are about to prepare ourselves for Communion. Your children have received their First Communion books. A letter will be going home soon regarding what needs to be done at home.

Please make sure that your child has an extra pair of socks and mitts for recess and to always have their snow pants.

Please continue to check your child’s agenda for homework and make sure to sign it every day. If you have any questions or concerns you can email me at christinesimbulan23@gmail.com or call me at the school.

Many Blessings!
