Here we
are, the last month of grade two! This year went by incredibly fast and I can’t
believe that this year is almost over. I am so proud of how much these grade
twos have grown.
Here is
what has been happening in our class this past month:
In
Language Arts, we have started looking at story elements and recognizing the
character, the setting, the problem, and the conclusion of a story. Then we
looked at how we can create each story element. The students have been working
hard creating their first short story. We practice the writing process and went
over the stages of writing: pre-write, draft, revise, edit, and publish. The
kids did a really good job in writing their ideas, putting it together,
revising and fixing their mistakes, and writing their good copy. In the end,
they will put all their stories together and create a short story book for them
to read.
In
Science, we are exploring and researching animals. The kids have become “Animal
Experts” and have been learning to ask questions and find answers about the
animal that they have chosen. We looked at types of animals, their diet, life
cycle, adaptations, and physical features. Hopefully, we will get all their
research done and create their own animal research book.
In
Social Studies, we continue to study information about Canada. We looked at the
provinces, researched popular landmarks, looked at food and culture, and
explored different animals in Canada.
In Math,
we did shapes. We looked at 2-D shapes and 3-D shapes. We looked at how we can
use 2-D shapes to create 3-D shapes. We also connected 3-D shapes within our environment
and how we create and build things using 3-D shapes. For this last month of
school, we are reviewing all our number sense skills for example, addition and
subtraction facts using mental math and understanding place value, as well as
problem solving.
Many
things are happening this month of June. Please look at your calendars to keep
you posted.
Please
continue to check your child’s agenda for homework and make sure to sign it
every day. If you have any questions or concerns you can email me at christinesimbulan23@gmail.com or call me at the school.
Many Blessings!
