Hello families of Grade 2! It is good to be back in the classroom. For those of you that don’t know me, I am Mrs. Shade and I was on maternity leave for the first part of this school year. I am getting to know the kids now and we are all getting back into a different routine than we have been used to for the past 4 months. So far it is going very well.
In Language Arts, we are working on reading and focusing on
our writing. We are writing in our Journals
every week, doing reading comprehension and learning how to write in complete
sentences. We will be continuing with
our weekly spelling program each week.
In Math, we are working on adding. We have focused on doubles, doubles plus one,
and tens partners. We will be moving on
to subtraction in the next couple of weeks.
In Science, we have started a new unit called Properties of
Solids, Liquids and Gases. This unit
gives us many chances for some fun experiments.
In Social Studies, we are working on the unit Communities of
Canada. We will be taking a closer look
at two of Canada’s communities and comparing the similarities and differences
with our own community. We are currently
looking at Canada’s smallest province, Prince Edward Island.
Please make
sure you are checking and signing your child’s agenda every day. This is a great form of communication between
school and home.
If you have
any questions or concerns about your child please feel free to write me a note
in their agenda or send me an email to grade2sgs@gmail.com.
Keep warm!
Mrs. Shade
