Happy New Year! I hope everyone enjoyed a relaxing and peaceful break!
In Language Arts, we are working on reading, phonics and we
will be putting a bigger focus on our writing.
We are writing in our Journals every week and we will be working on
different writing projects throughout the month. We will be continuing with our weekly spelling
and home reading programs.
In Math, we are finishing up learning some addition
strategies and then will move on to subtraction. By the end of grade 2, students should be
able to add and subtract numbers with answers to 100 and should be able to
recall their facts with answers to 18 quickly and accurately.
In Science, we are just finishing up our unit on Growth and
Changes in Animals. We will be starting
a new unit called Properties of Solids, Liquids and Gases before the end of
January. This unit gives us many chances
for some fun experiments.
In Social Studies, we are finishing up our unit on Our Local
Community. We will be starting our next
unit, Communities of Canada, before the end of January. We will be taking a closer look at two of
Canada’s communities (Prince Edward Island and Nunavut) and comparing the similarities
and differences with our own community.
In Religion, we continue to work through our We Believe text
book and we will be taking a closer look at the Ten Commandments this
month.
Please make
sure you are checking and signing your child’s agenda every day. This is a great form of communication between
school and home. Also, please make sure
you are checking and signing your child’s spelling test each week. The tests are sent home every Friday and are
expected to be brought back on Mondays.
Keep warm!
Mrs. Shade
