February has arrived! The month of love! This week is Catholic Schools Week. We have a different theme each day this week. Monday was Number day and we dressed in our numbers and played bingo in the gym, Tuesday is Valentine ’s Day and Family Lunch, Wednesday is Superhero day and Thursday is Cultural day. February is also “I Love to Read” month. We have been focusing a lot of our activities around different books and have had a lot of extra time to read this month.
In Language
Arts, we are continuing with our spelling program and phonics books each
week. This month we have been reading
The Pigeon stories by Mo William and are doing many fun writing activities
centering on that.
In Math, we
have started subtraction. We are working
on different strategies to solve subtraction problems and have started
two-digit subtraction without regrouping.
We will be learning how to regroup and borrow after spring break.
In Science,
we have started our new unit on Solids, Liquids and Gases. A note went home last week about making a
boat that floats on water using recycled materials that can be found at
home. We will have some fun testing our
boats to see if they float or sink when weight is added.
In Social
Studies, we have started a new unit comparing Winnipeg to Charlottetown, Prince
Edward Island. We are learning about all
the similarities and differences between the two communities.
In
Religion, we are preparing and learning about the Sacrament of
Reconciliation. We have talked about
using our conscience to help guide us to make the right decisions and we are learning
the Act of Contrition.
I hope
everyone has a wonderful February full of love!
