Happy New Year! I hope everyone enjoyed a relaxing and peaceful break!
In Language
Arts, we are working on reading, phonics and we will be putting a bigger focus
on our writing. We are writing in our
Journals every week and we will be working on different writing projects
throughout the month. We will be
continuing with our weekly spelling and home reading programs.
In Math, we
are finishing up learning some addition strategies and then will move on to
subtraction. By the end of grade 2,
students should be able to add and subtract numbers with answers to 100 and
should be able to recall their facts with answers to 18 quickly and
accurately.
In Science,
we started a new unit called Properties of Solids, Liquids and Gases. This unit gives us many chances for some fun
experiments.
In Social
Studies, we are taking a closer look at two of Canada’s communities (Prince
Edward Island and Nunavut) and comparing the similarities and differences with
our own community.
In Religion,
we continue to work through our We Believe text book. I am very proud of the hard work the grade 2’s
put into their school mass in December.
They did a great job!
Please make
sure you are checking and signing your child’s agenda every day. This is a great form of communication between
school and home.
We look
forward to our first field trip at the end of the month as well!
Keep warm!
