November

It was great to see all the families at parent-teacher conferences.  The students really enjoyed sharing their portfolios with you.

November is a time of remembrance and peace.  The grade two students have been learning about Remembrance Day and did a project based on the book A Poppy is to Remember.  We will have a Remembrance Day ceremony at the school on Friday, November 9th at 2:35pm.

In Language Arts, we have been focusing on our reading, writing and spelling.  We have been writing in our writing note books and doing special writing projects such as “The Best Part of Me” which you got to see at parent-teacher conferences.

In Math, we are finishing up our unit on Place Value.  The students are enjoying getting to use the place value blocks in this unit.  They are learning to represent and describe numbers to 100 using pictures, objects, numbers and words.

In Social Studies, we are learning about “Our Community”.  We are talking about what it means to be a community.  We will be looking at the different groups of people, places and services that it takes to make up a community.  For example, stores, schools, post office, fire station, homes, workers, etc.

In Science, we are looking at the characteristics of mammals and how those characteristics change or stay the same from the time they are a baby until they become an adult.

Closer to the end of the month we will be preparing and practicing for our school mass.  The Grade 2’s will be doing mass on Tuesday, Decemeber 11th.

Now that the weather is getting colder and the snow is here to stay, please remember to send your child dressed appropriately with hats, mitts, scarves, ski pants and boots.
