Wow! It’s hard to believe we
are already in the month of December. The Grade 2’s are getting ready for the coming of Christmas
in our minds and our hearts. We are
busily preparing for the Christmas concert.
We are very excited to share our talents with our friends and family on
December 19th. We are also preparing for
the grade 2 school mass on Tuesday, December 11th.
Although
it is a very busy time of year, we are still doing a lot of learning in the
classroom.
In
Science, we just finished a research project on endangered animals. The students compiled all their facts
together and made a poster for their animal.
They enjoyed this project a lot and the posters turned out great!
In
Social Studies, we are wrapping up our unit on Our Local Community. The students are taking a closer look at
themselves and the different groups they belong to within their own
communities.
In
ELA, we made Kindness Donuts and each student wrote about the ways that they
are kind to others. We are focusing on
writing full sentences with proper capitalization and punctuation. We are also
learning about word families and we are trying hard to sound words out first
before we ask how to spell them.
In
math, we have been doing some basic addition.
We have started doing a mad minute at least once a week. This is when I give the students two minutes
to answer 20 math questions as quickly and accurately as they can. We are learning how to add doubles (2+2=4)
and doubles plus one (2+3=5). We are
also learning about the tens pairs (6+4=10 and 2+8=10).
In
Religion, we have been preparing for our school mass in December. We are talking all about Advent and Christmas
and preparing for the coming of Jesus.
I
hope everyone has a Merry Christmas and a relaxing break spent with family and
friends!
