Happy New
Year! I hope everyone enjoyed a relaxing
and peaceful break! We are now starting
our second week back and the students are already hard at work and settling
back into routine.
In Language Arts, we are working on word family booklets and
focusing on our writing. We are writing
in our Journals every week and we will be working on different writing projects
throughout the month. We will be
continuing with our weekly spelling program and home reading will be sent home
weekly as well.
In Math, we are working on adding one and two digit
numbers. We have been focusing on tens
partners and adding ten to a number. Ask
your child to tell you what happens to a number when you add ten to it? Which
numbers change and which numbers stay the same?
In Science, we are starting a new unit called Properties of
Solids, Liquids and Gases. This unit
gives us many chances for some fun experiments.
In Social Studies, we are finishing up our unit on Our Local
Community. We will be starting our next
unit, Communities of Canada, before the end of January. We will be taking a closer look at two of
Canada’s communities and comparing the similarities and differences with our
own community.
Please make
sure you are checking and signing your child’s agenda every day. This is a great form of communication between
school and home. Also, please make sure
you are checking and signing your child’s spelling test each week. The tests are sent home every Friday and are
expected to be brought back on Mondays.
Keep warm!
