November

It was great to see all of the families at parent-teacher conferences.  The students really enjoyed sharing their portfolios with you.
November is a time of remembrance and peace.  The grade two students have been learning about Remembrance Day and did a project based on the book A Poppy is to Remember.  We had a Remembrance Day ceremony at the school on Friday, November 8th and the grade 2 class performed a poem called “Little Poppy”.  We were very lucky to have Master Warrant Officer Scott Baker at our assembly to give the students a presentation.
In Language Arts, we have been focusing on our reading and writing.  We have been writing in our journals and doing special writing projects such as “The Best Part of Me” which you got to see at parent-teacher conferences.
In Math, we are beginning our next unit on Place Value.  They are learning to represent and describe numbers to 100 using pictures, objects, numbers and words.  We will continue to do our Mad Minutes so please remember to practice addition facts up to 18 at home.
In Social Studies, we are continuing to learn about “Our Local Community”.  We are talking about what it means to be a part of a community.  The students did a mini writing project on their favourite place in their local community.
In Science, we are still learning about the growth and changes of animals.  We have started a group research project on an animal of the students choosing.  They will turn their research into a poster to display in our classroom.
Closer to the end of the month we will be preparing and practicing for our school mass.  The Grade 2’s will be doing mass on Tuesday, Decemeber 10th.
