Happy New
Year! I hope everyone enjoyed a relaxing
and peaceful break! Thank you for being
so accommodating during my short leave.
The kids did a wonderful job with the substitutes and I am so proud of
them. It feels good to be back and get back
into a routine. We are now finishing our second week back and the students are
already hard at work and settling back into routine.
In Language Arts, we are working on reading and focusing on
our writing. We are writing in our
Journals every week and we will be working on different writing projects
throughout the month. We will be
continuing with our weekly spelling program and home reading will be sent home
weekly as well.
In Math, we are finishing up our place value unit by working
on a project. The students will work in
partners to design their own candy store.
They will have to answer math questions about the candy store. This project is a good chance for the
students to use the skills they have learned up till now and apply them to a
real life situation.
In Science, we are starting a new unit called Properties of
Solids, Liquids and Gases. This unit
gives us many chances for some fun experiments.
In Social Studies, we are finishing up our unit on Our Local
Community. We will be starting our next
unit, Communities of Canada, before the end of January. We will be taking a closer look at two of
Canada’s communities and comparing the similarities and differences with our
own community.
Please make
sure you are checking and signing your child’s agenda every day. This is a great form of communication between
school and home. Also, please make sure
you are checking and signing your child’s spelling test each week. The tests are sent home every Friday and are
expected to be brought back on Mondays.
Keep warm!
